the medium monster wants your eyeballs...

What adventurous times we live in.

A thousand lies mixing with a thousand little truths, the troubled times have never been so confused.

And yet, here you are, here I am, alive and living...

Playing and dancing and planning...

What strange curiosities will life bring next?

That's about as far as one can get when it comes to outside circumstances, events beyond one's control.

But what about you and your life?

What about you and your desires?

Yes...

Your story continues to unfold.

Are you taken by anything, enraptured, enveloped and in awe of your existence?

No, yes, sometimes!

NEVER...

The madness...

Well, all is well, all is as it is...

Yet...

All is well.

Let me share with you a little 'awakening' I had ages ago.

You see, it had to do with television. I threw mine away, gave it a way actually.

For 15 years, I was without a tv. It was delightful.

Then, the internet started delivering anything and everything a human can want. And because I like to learn, and because it is easy to digest, and because because because because...

Everyone has a "because", also known as an excuse disguised as, "I can't do that because..."

because, my business, my girlfriend, my boyfriend, my job, my GOD I can't turn my phone off...

Television, internet, mobile phones, youtube, social media, netflix and the news, nothing new, choose your stimulant, your depressant, your entertaining lies. Your friend, right there for you, 24 hours a day, online all the time.

So I watched that behaviour play out over some time, watching how my own protective measures of no television, were replaced with a strange mixture of entertainment and education mainlined through the medium.

But there's a lie wrapped in it.

Oh how funny we humans are, so easy to deceive, so easy to deceive ourselves, "Learning".

Well, a long time ago, I recognised what was taking place, and I didn't engage until I did.

All is well...

Until it isn't...

And even then it is...

So you see, I felt like my mind and mood were beginning to melt away in a deleterious fashion and all at my own behest.

I was choosing it.

And that is the best news ever.

You see, most things in life are out of our control, but the best of life is right here waiting for us to make a choice.

The choice to choose life fulfilling and energy creating activities or...

The dumps of "digital dementia" and self induced insecurities and depression.

Seems like a simple choice, but is it.

You choose...

...do you like to struggle or do you like it easy?

And don't be too quick to answer.

Honesty runs away from us, particularly when we are looking within.

I will tell you more in the next email about the digital curfew I started on all devices and how powerful the effects have been as well as a short recap of the past year, but for now I am done writing for the moment, but here's a clue, I am off, off, off, off and in peace and serenity.

There's a glorious breeze carrying over the valley and through the trees, waiting for me to say yes please.

To making better choices and doing so with love,

Emeric Damian

An Undisclosed Café Sesimbra Portugal, A Wednesday, Dear Love, Some days are just made to be silly. You know I haven’t had any Coke for 20 years or more. I’m just not a big fan of soda pop But here I am in Sesimbra at an undisclosed location, sweaty hot day. "Que forno"… Like being in an oven ( what an oven ). . The writing was flowing, hours sitting at the keyboard and I was done looking at anything non organic. I closed my computer and decided I would have a Coca Cola. Now I’m not drinking...

Café Spot DivingSesimbra Portugal24th July 2024 Dear Love, It’s noon and I sit in the diving mecca of Sesimbra, near the docks. Tuesday and life is calm, after the weekend rush, a Monday and Tuesday feel like a Holiday from people. Local characters sip coffee, fishermen unravel their lines from a night of fishing. Here in Portugal the fresh markets for fish are closed on Mondays because the fishermen are blessing the ocean with a day off. That is a testament to the Portuguese and their love...

"Alienation is the human condition, love the human necessity", said the professor. His tone was sincere, his eyes focused on the truth. It was the first day of class and my 22 year old mind was in a puddle of anxiety after hearing those words. You feel it in your entire being when a truth hits you; it is disturbing to your existence. I dropped the class. Perhaps it was that same semester, when I found myself in an auditorium, a different professor began to speak with silence. He pushed play...
